Hoskins was born in Lynchburg, Virginia. His parents were religious, strict and insistent upon the superiority of white Southerners. There was never a doubt that young Richard would play his role well. After finishing his elementary education, Richard was packed off to an exclusive military academy in Waynesboro, Virginia. This was in keeping with the grand academic traditions of Southern gentlemen such as Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson.
Naturally, when the Korean War began, cadet Hoskins fulfilled what was expected of him. He joined the Air Force, seeing action in Korea. After his honorable discharge, Hoskins attended Lynchburg College, where he majored in history. As he steeped himself in world history, Hoskins read and admired the works of Julius Evola. Evola’s philosophy was rabidly racist and belligerent, and advocated Fascism and Nazism as the only workable forms of government. Under Evola’s influence, Hoskins turned to neo-Nazism, joining the American Nazi Party.
Southern gentlemen not only served in the military, but were also expected to be prosperous and good at business. So after Hoskins graduated from College, he moved to New York City, where family connections landed him a job in a brokerage firm. Hoskins flourished as an investment broker. He learned the subtle art of advising others on how to invest their money. Which meant Hoskins learned how to make money off of other people’s money.
After a few years, Hoskins returned to Lynchburg, going to work for Francis I. Du Pont and Company. Later, he moved his career to Anderson & Strudwick, Inc., where he became a vice president.
By 1960, the civil rights movement was in full swing. Integration became the boogeyman feared by all right-thinking Southerners. To the shock and dismay of many Virginians, the schools of the state of Virginia were integrated. The very idea offended Hoskins. And rather than stand idly by as cataclysm took place, Hoskins looked around and found inspiration. He decided to “to write a short book on the history of our own Saxon race and publish myself if I had to.”
Which was exactly what he did. Hoskins wrote and self-published Our Nordic Race, a historical diatribe supposedly proving the superiority of “pure Nordic” races. His thesis was contagious. His style was agreeable. He radiated confidence and impartiality.
Hoskins started his own publishing company. He had to. No right-thinking publisher dared to touch such overtly racist material. Calling it the Virginia Publishing Company, at first Hoskins only published his own books. Later though, he added the works of other anti-Semitic white nationalists.
In Our Nordic Race, Hoskins explained why the Roman and Greek empires had faded into the mists of history. There was one reason and it was simple to understand. The Greeks and the Romans had diluted the purity of their races. Purity of race had been destroyed by interbreeding with inferior races, which were people of color, “mud-people.” Hoskins made it very clear when he wrote, “When a race which produces original thought breeds with a race which produces little or no original thought, the resulting breed is a failure.” In other words, the Romans and the Greeks, who were of the Aryan line, had gone from being bluebloods to being mutts by means of crossbreeding.
Hoskins boldly branded the Greeks and the Romans as racial apostates. Without equivocation or hesitation, he stated “Our Nordic race in these nations was betrayed and destroyed by their own Nordic countrymen who became Race Traitors.”
Hoskins didn’t know it at the time, but his thunderous, racist spouting was very similar to the doctrines pouring out of the church of Christian Identity. Hoskins had not yet come into contact with Christian Identity. But he soon would.
Our Nordic Race became widely read among die-hard white supremacists. Hoskins achieved a type of quiet fame.
